There are three main costs involved in setting up a website:

Domain name
A domain name is your unique address on the Internet. The name must comply with certain rules, particularly if registering a ".com.au" domain name.

It will cost $38-$79 for a "www.yourbusiness.com.au" name for two years. Price range varies depending on who you want to host with.

Hosting
Website hosting can be described as 'renting a bit of space on the internet'. Your website sits in that space so that it is accessible to the Internet audience. Depending on the technology required for your site, hosting will cost somewhere between $150 and $600 per year. Price range depends on site traffic and selection of hosting provider.

Site build
"How much does a website cost?" is probably the most frequently asked 'Frequently Asked Question'! An analogy that we like to use when asked this question is about house building.

Can you imagine going to a builder and asking, "How much does a house cost?" He would then ask you "How many rooms?" "Single or double storey?" "Brick or weatherboard?" "Would you like an outdoor entertaining area?" "Would you like an indoor swimming pool?"

"Do you want gold plated taps, or is stainless steel ok?"

"Do you want Italian marble floors, or would you prefer vinyl?"

In other words, it's impossible for the builder to say how much it costs to build a house until he know what the requirements are. Sometimes the builder might offer house and land packages that come with a list of standard inclusions. There will be a set price and any variations to the package will cost extra.
